2015 Jakarta – Joseph Lee

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV

My name is Joseph Lee and I recently came back from a week-long mission trip to Jakarta, Indonesia. Our team went to empower the students of IKAT Theological Seminary, minister to the local NPWM (Native Partners for World Mission) pastors, and to strengthen the local church leaders. And it was powerful! We traveled all around to IKAT, public schools, local ministries, and churches in Jakarta. God was doing a supernatural work. Many people committed their lives to God, and we saw many testimonies of healing, and empowering of the Holy Spirit. This whole trip was a blessing to me personally on so many levels. Not only were we able to build up our brothers and sisters in Christ but, I too, was encouraged.

This was my first time going on missions with New Philly and I didn’t quite know what to expect. This was also my first time going on missions to empower fellow Christians and to really connect with the local ministers and future leaders. I was so blessed to see the fruits of seeds already sown, especially at IKAT. We didn’t know until the near end of our trip, but it turned out that all the churches and and organizations where we were ministering were actually headed up by IKAT alumni! How awesome is that? What a blessing it was to be sent there to encourage and build up these warriors through sermons, seminars, testimonies, and prayer!

What blessed me the most however was when we got minister to the students at the public schools. Indonesia is the largest Muslim nation in the world, and more than 80% of the population follow this faith. Thus it was amazing to be able to visit an Indonesian public school. Never have I seen class times divided by religion! Because we had gone during the afternoon, the Muslim students were having afternoon prayer while the Christians had a time of “Spiritual Guidance.” This was a time to gather together separately and receive Christian teachings. That was really awesome to see. Even at the elementary schools we saw these gatherings. I wish I had received times of spiritual guidance when I was in school. Our team was able to perform skits and body worship and well as give a short sermon and have prayer times with the students. It was really powerful! I believe our ministry time really opened up the students more to the Gospel. We were building up in these students a fresh faith, love and hope. Many of them responded to the altar calls and were in tears and as they received prayer for reconciliation. The ministry time brought a lot of freedom, strength, and renewal to the students as well as encouragement. It was so amazing to see God move in this way. It really encouraged me to be more faithful to grow as a minister of the Lord, that I may be used as His vessel. On this trip, God challenged me in two ways. First was to grow in my faith- to continue to seek and be in His presence, to really steward my relationship with Him. The second challenge was to encourage and build up others around me.

I am excited to see what God is doing in Indonesia and what is to come! God is doing a great work in this nation! I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to witness and take part in the expansion of His Kingdom here. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me as well in this upcoming season.

Thank you New Philly for your support in both your prayers and finances. We definitely felt covered!
