His Cross is Worthy of Our Cross

Duration: 45 minutes (audio)

Overview

Right after Jesus tells his disciples about his imminent death and resurrection, he calls for his disciples to deny themselves, pick up their cross and follow him. As believers in the Cross, we have to have an understanding that The Cross of Jesus Christ is worthy of our fight to die to sin and to be sanctified; to pick up our cross. It’s not about a “Thank You for all the forgiveness”, but a life devoted to God. Although the struggle is real and not easy, we have the revelation of a living, breathing, resurrected Savior. He loves us and is for us, to help us in our fight to kill the flesh and be like Jesus! If we are to carry our cross daily, we need to have a revelation of our risen Savior daily! And he is waiting for that invitation from us to allow him to take us deeper into intimacy and love with him.

Discussion Questions

CG questions written by Caleb Lee.

  1. Do we cheapen the cross if we accept the forgiveness but go on living our life however we want? Why are so many people (maybe you in the past) content to do so? What does it say about our understanding of God and His love when we live like this? Does this challenge your previous understanding of Easter?
  2. What does it actually mean to pick up our cross? What are some ways that God is calling you to pick up your cross? What are some things that keep you from taking up your cross?
  3. When carrying our cross, Jesus is not behind us with a whip, but in front of us, helping us and encouraging us. Share a time when you were low and Christ was there to encourage and help you up.
  4. If even for Peter, one of Jesus’ closest who declared that Jesus is the Son of God, needed a reminder of the resurrected Christ. What are some ways that we can continually get a fresh revelation of the risen savior? What are some things that we can do to reveal the risen savior to the people around us?
  5. The Emmaus disciples had a revelation of the risen Lord through the opening of the Scriptures. How has your time in the Word of God been? What are some things that block you from going deep into the scriptures? What are some things that we can implement so that we can go deeper into the Word of God?

Meditation and Memorization

Spend some time together meditating and memorizing Hebrews 12:1-2:
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
