Discussion Questions

CG questions written by Marcus Corpening.

  1. P. Marcus shared that “when anything is disconnected from its purpose it is subject to destruction and decay.” Has that proven true for you? What are some areas where you’ve felt disconnected from purpose?
  2. Read Mark 1:14-15, Matthew 4:23, and Matthew 24:14. From these passages, what can we discern was the overall purpose of Jesus’ ministry, and therefore Christianity in general?
  3. One aspect of the “kingdom” is to bring a new government. Have one person in your group look up the definition of kingdom and read it aloud. Have you ever considered that Jesus’ aim was to bring a new government, rather than a religion? Read Isaiah 9:6-7 together. Discuss how this change may affect your understanding of your faith.
  4. Something P. Marcus didn’t mention is that a “kingdom” is different than a “democracy.” How so? What are the implications of this? What does this say as to the way that God understands Christianity verses the way many of us do?
  5. The Bible makes it clear that along with a new government, God’s kingdom brings us new identities. Read Gal 4:7, Philippians 3:20, Isaiah 61:6, Revelation 5:9-10, and 2 Corinthians 5:20 and make a list of each of the identities we have in the kingdom. Discuss together the benefits of each. Why is it significant that God has given us each one of these identities? What responsibilities come attached with each one?
