Discussion Questions

CG questions written by Christian Lee.

  1. Read Philippians 2:3-5. In your own words, what is the difference between true humility and self deprecation (or being overly modest)?
  2. PC gave three reasons why it is important that we, as Christians, learn to be selfless. Go through each one and share any insights that the Holy Spirit highlighted for you.
    1. Selflessness is our original design.
    2. Selflessness is the essence of God’s love.
    3. Selflessness is essential for healthy relationships.
  3. Selflessness is the single most important aspect of a healthy relationship or marriage but it is the hardest to live out. What two reasons did PC give for why it is such a challenge?
  4. Wounded people are so self-absorbed that they have a difficult time owning up to their selfish patterns or they justify it or they help others in an obsessive way because they’re actually trying to feel better about themselves. Compare and discuss the world’s approach toward helping wounded people with the Christian diagnosis and help: “We believe that, no matter how badly a person is wounded, the resulting selfishness of the human heart was not caused by the mistreatment but it was only magnified and shaped by it.”
  5. Take 2-3 minutes in your CG to memorize 2 Cor 5:15 (NIV84), “and he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.” What kind of transformation is Christ seeking for those who trust in his death and ressurection?
