Discussion Questions

  1. Read aloud Ecclesiastes 3:1-13. According to this passage, life is characterized by rhythms and seasons. Pastor Erin preached that it is very important to discern what season you are in right now. Why is it important to do this?

  2. In one sentence, how would you describe the season you are in right now (it can be regarding your career, studies, relationships, spiritual walk, etc.)?

  3. Out of the three keys of embracing your season[1], go around and briefly state which one you relate to the most right now?

  4. If you related to the first key, in what ways have you focused on loss in previous seasons preventing you from enjoying all that God has for you?

  5. If you related to the second key, in what ways do you live life longing to be in the next season, preventing a delight or passivity to the current one?

  6. If you related to the third key, how have you wasted previous seasons of your life? In what ways is God calling you to glorify him better in your current season?

  7. There is a season for sowing and reaping. In what areas of your life is God calling you to sow and in what areas is God calling you to reap?

  8. In Pastor Benjamin Robinson’s sermon “Field of Beans” preached at the New Philly retreat in Korea, he preached that Christ strengthens us and that strength has two application points: 1) it is the ability to stand against a power that’s trying to move you from your place; 2) it is the ability to move against a power that’s trying to keep you standing still. What season did PB discern that our church is currently in and in what ways do you see this to be true and in what ways have you seen our community struggle with this?

Footnotes
  1. By way of review, the three keys were: 1) don’t focus on loss but on what God has called you to enjoy; 2) don’t live life longing to be in the next season but learn to be fully present now; 3) don’t waste your current season rather discover how you can glorify God through it.
