Discussion Questions

  1. Read Luke 5:27-32. The passage holds a very important teaching taught by Jesus through an analogy. What is the analogy and what do you think Jesus means by it?
  2. Read Acts 5: 12-16. The sick tried to get in Peter’s shadow in order to be healed.Jesus, although he is The Ultimate Physician, he was not the only physician during his time. How can we apply this today?
  3. Read Matt. 9:35. It is in Jesus in whom we trust for healing. How does this compare to how med students and medical practitioners operate today?
  4. Based on the message, discuss the pros and cons of seeing a hospital as a metaphor for the church.
  5. Have you ever thought about Isaiah 61:1-3 from a medical standpoint before? How does this shift the way you see yourself as an attendee, member or leader at New Philly?
  6. Discuss the three ways we can become better physicians suggested in the message: 1) practice by stepping out in faith 2) build relationships with your patients and 3) learn to diagnose yourself. Which stood out to you the most and why?

  8. Read Gal 5:22-23 and have your CG memorize the 9 fruits of the Spirit.
  9. Lead a time of prayer for our community in response to the sermon. Conduct the prayer time as the Spirit leads and feel free to be creative in the prayer topics.
