Discussion Questions

God’s Hidden Wisdom

  1. Read I Corinthians 2:6-7. The theme of New Philly’s Korea Retreat was “God’s Hidden Wisdom” and it was drawn out of this passage. Why would God keep his wisdom hidden from his sons and daughters?
  2. Pastor Christian had a dream during the retreat in which he dove head first into a pool but ended up hitting his head on the bottom. Pastor Benjamin Robinson then preached about how many Christians have a wide breadth of biblical knowledge but their spiritual depth is about as deep as a kiddie pool. Do you think that’s an accurate picture? How does this make you feel?
  3.
    Prayer and Meditation

  4. Read Psalm 1:1-3. What does the blessed and prosperous man do day and night? Why is this important and how have you handled the most powerful sermons you’ve received in the past?
  5. Read Mark 4:21, 24-25. According to this passage, why is it important that we pay attention to what we hear and respond appropriately?
  6. On May 10, 10:10pm, Pastor Christian received the following email from his spiritual mother, Pastor Sunhee. Why would the enemy want to keep us from digesting the wisdom released at the retreat?

I was praying all night last night and spent some time praying for new philly. I heard the Lord say that the sickness you had was prophetic. God gave kingdom wisdom and revelation during the retreat and the enemy is trying to put a virus or a bacteria in the body so that the body will throw up all the wisdom and revelation. I felt like God told me to tell you to activate your intercessors to pray against this scheme of the enemy and pray for protection so that the body can hold onto the kingdom food that will nourish and strengthen your body! Then I came home and saw on Facebook that Erin has the same sickness! This is beyond just physical sickness but spiritual! What God gave to new philly during this retreat is powerful and needed for the next journey! You must hold on and digest it! You cannot allow any virus to enter into the body and throw it up.

  7. Have you made the 21 day intercession commitment or the 3 sermon commitment? [1] For those who have, can you share what your experience has been like thus far?
  8. What are some of the things that you foresee at New Philly (and in the bigger movement our ministries are a part of) in the next five years? What gets you most excited?

Footnotes
  1. The 3 sermon commitment involves re-listening to at least three retreat sermons, making an outline of what God highlighted to you, and then meditating on the outline for the duration of the sermon’s length. Due by the end of May 2014.
