2014 Chennai – Shine Kim

Anxiety Drop, Victory Crop

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7

Hi, my name is Shine Kim. I am one of the reserve leaders at New Philadelphia Church Seaside. I went on a missions trip to Chennai, India from Jan 31 to Feb 10. This was the first missions trip of my life and my first time going to India! To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect. I was going through so many things before the trip so I felt like I wasn’t good enough for our team. But God made me victorious throughout our time in Chennai! Hallelujah! I have so much to share but I will focus more on my personal breakthroughs.

The night before I left Busan, I had a small argument with my significant other and was holding some bitterness and unforgiveness in my heart. On top of that, I was sick for the first three days of the trip. Both physically and mentally, it was hard for me to be fully present in the field. Other members could cover my function as VBS (or children’s ministry) director but the absence of my presence affected my team negatively. On our third day, P. Myunghwa, the team preacher, pulled me aside and gave me a mission to do my best to be fully present for the day. I still had a slight fever, body aches, and a sore throat. But I just obeyed and did my best to be involved throughout the day and guess what, something amazing happened.

That day our team visited a cell group. It’s like our New Philly small group meetings but much bigger, with 30 to 40 people. Many of the members can’t come out to church because their families are Hindu. The day we visited, the cell group gathering was actually held outside, like an open revival service. At the end of the ministry time, our team started praying for the people who came out. God highlighted this lady who hadn’t been able to bend her knees or sit down comfortably for more than 20 years. All the team members gathered and started praying for her healing. As I was praying, I got a vision of the joints of her knees connecting to her spine and her brain, and it was all in God’s hand. And at that very moment, I received the gift of tongues, which I had been contending for for the past year! Praise the Lord! From that point on, not only did I get better physically, but I also became more than 100% present will the team. Our team unity got so much stronger as well.

God really stretched me in the mission field. He gave me the gift of tongues on my third day and let me practice it intensively every, single day as we were powerfully ministering in Chennai. I do not have many chances to lay hands and pray on Sundays here in Korea, but I had opportunities to pray and prophesy every day as soon as I received the gift of tongues.

On our 7th day in the field, P. Mathew (the local pastor) hosted a leadership training summit for about 50 people. There were pastors and church discipleship leaders, but the majority were students from different parts of India and Myanmar attending a local seminary. Our team had the opportunity to give a 4 hour-long leadership training program, split up into 3 sessions. Despite language and cultural barriers, we were able to explain things easily and effectively by giving practical examples and activities through our translators. Throughout the sessions, the foundation of my identity in Christ became so much stronger. What New Philly does became so much tangible to me. But most importantly, I experienced the power of the Holy Spirit for the first time in my life!

At the end of the last session about the Father’s heart and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, P. Myunghwa led a prayer topic about the Father’s love. People stood up and had an intimate time receiving the love of God the father. Many started to cry as they were established as sons of God. I couldn’t help crying because I also felt the our Father’s big heart for His children. Each one of these leaders are so valuable to Him, especially because what we sowed will soon bear fruit throughout India and other nations. One person represented a thousand people to us. Then P. Myunghwa told the team to go pray for these leaders to experience the power of the Holy Spirit. Even though I myself hadn’t experienced it before, I obeyed. I took my authority as a leader and ambassador, and laid my hand on the leaders one by one. The first girl I reached fell immediately under the weight of God’s glory. But she was already almost falling so I didn’t think too much about it. I then prayed for the girl next to her, and soon after she fell. I walked over to a girl wearing a sari (traditional Indian dress) and I laid my hand on her heart and started praying. By this time, my body felt so hot and I was praying in tongues uncontrollably. I had never felt this before. If I hadn’t been ministering, I would have been slain 100%. This girl fell to the floor by the power of the Holy Spirit, and that moment was a huge breakthrough of my spiritual life.

That night, as I was thanking God for what He had shown me, I heard His gentle voice. He said, “현지야(He calls me by my Korean name) this is my power. This is me. I reach every part of the world. I am real and also very personal. You may go back to Korea and find your family and friends the same but you will not be the same, and that’s a big change already. Continue to be faithful and obedient to my leading. I won’t disappoint you because I am the only one never fails.” God’s grace was covering me and I just cried. God became so personal to me.

One of my desires for this missions trip was to be less task oriented and instead trust more in God so that He could do His work through me. Now I am back and I did become more relaxed and chilled out! I’ve learned that it’s not about what I can do or what I release, but about what God does through me. I am not anxious about things that I go through anymore. It was when I dropped everything and obeyed to God’s calling that He gave me the most powerful peace and victory.
Thank you very much for supporting me with prayers and finance. This testimony is also yours!
