Heart-Changing Love

“But from there you will search again for the LORD your God. And if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him” -Deuteronomy 4:29.

India was never on my grid. In fact it was the last country I saw myself going to, especially for missions. I never had an interest or heart for this nation. But as the missions countries were announced for the winter, my mind kept getting led to this country. At random times of the day my heart would get more and more excited. I decided in faith to put my name down for missions and a week later I received an email saying that I was chosen to go to India.

Once I applied, many obstacles suddenly arose which initially made me withdraw from the trip. I contacted the Missions Director (who later happened to be on my team) and explained to her that I would no longer be going on missions. I closed my heart to the possibility. But little did I know that God had a different plan for me.

Later on that same day Pastor Christian- my old roommate, good friend, and pastor- called me, asking to meet up. We met and he personally encouraged me to go on missions, saying that it would be a good idea for me in this season of my life. I trust Pastor Christian’s judgment greatly. Therefore despite my initial reservations, I opened my heart again and began to get ready.

Now I am so glad that God made sure that I went to Chennai. Through this trip God gave me a heart for India and reignited a passion for missions. One of the expectations that I wrote about before going on the trip was that I really wanted to grow in being relational. Because of many hard relationships and bad circumstances I had in the past, I know that I have always held back relationally. Whether it was with family, friends, or any sort of relationship, it was very clear that I always shut myself off to people before allowing them to get to close.

God changed all this through my team. I felt so much freedom and love with my team members. It felt like God picked specific people on the team to heal specific areas where I was hurt. I saw relationships really grow amongst the team members as well. I could feel God’s love overflow from within the team and onto the missions field. Thus through this trip we all were able to tangibly feel the Father’s heart for India- how it burns for salvation and revival all across the nation.

I now have such a big heart for my team, and I’ve grown a big heart for India. I can confidently say that I have made lifelong relationships with my team members. There is a love that was not there before. Each member of my team played key roles, and watching everyone walk out their identity in Christ was so exciting and such an honor. I genuinely desire to go back to India someday. I know God has powerful plans for this nation. I don’t think this mission trip is the end, but rather the beginning of a new chapter in my life- a life that now will embrace relationships. With a heart that has felt the Father’s heart for the lost. I am honored and excited to see where this new road will take me. Thank you so much for your prayers and support, allowing this testimony to be a reality.
